Build Archi Architects
Build Archi Architects specialises in delivering comprehensive professional services for residential clients. Our bespoke architectural projects include those involving period, historic or listed properties. They often involve the extension, renovation/retrofit and modernisation of existing homes but commercial residential projects, relating to say holiday accommodation, are possible too. We strive to design internal and external living space that is both practical and visually enhancing and we can meet specific needs that go beyond the minimum requirements of building regulations, such as for accessibility, sustainability, fire protection, flood protection or other purposes. Visit our architectural, interior and landscape design project pages for more of an insight into the breadth of our capability.
Where we cover
Geographically, we provide our services in Bath and North East Somerset, parts of Wiltshire, Somerset and South Gloucestershire, and occasionally consider projects further afield. Our projects are often in or near sensitive natural or historic locations, such as The World Heritage City of Bath, including the Bath City Conservation Area, the Bath and Bristol Green Belt, or a National Landscapes (formerly known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty) such as the Mendip Hills, the southern Cotswolds and North Wessex Downs.

Our Principal

Build Archi Architects principal is Mary Bon, a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB). Mary obtained RIBA Part III qualification from The Bartlett School of Architecture in 1999, University College London, while working for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (London), after obtaining a Diploma in Architecture and Ma (Hons) Degree at the University of Edinburgh. She first became a Chartered Member of the RIBA in 2000.
She was first drawn to architecture following a suggestion made to her by her A level art teacher, and thus sees architecture as much of an an art as a science. Her architectural education was traditional, in the Beaux-Arts style, and largely drawing-board based. She adapted to using computer aided design while in practice and is now adapting to benefit from using artificial intelligence.
Her experience in architecture extends beyond to areas such as undergraduate architectural education, writing for the wider international construction industry, and has stretched across several countries. However she has particular built experience in the private residential sector, while based in Bath and North East Somerset. This is a sector Mary engaged with in the area while working for a couple of Bath-based practices, and today this represents her main area of architectural interest, especially projects involving historic/period property.
She also has experience in other sectors, while working with other practices, as well as under her own name in the UK and France, earlier in her career, when she was registered as a self employed architect in France. Mary prides herself with her attention to detail, and thoroughness. She has recently passed the RIBA Health and Safety test, now mandatory for RIBA Chartered Members to be able to practice, and actively commits to RIBA Continuing Professional Development as required. She is also a firm advocate of the benefit of interdisciplinary design and working alongside chartered structural engineers, chartered building service engineers, and chartered quantity surveyors for example, as part of a design team, ideally from project inception, depending on the nature and scale of project.
